Sneads Ferry

Sneads Ferry Real Estate

Sneads Ferry, NC: Quaint doesn’t begin to describe the small fishing village of Sneads Ferry on the southern coast of North Carolina. This small seaside community is known for its generous spirit, small-town feel and welcoming nature. It’s all about the seafood and fishing here, since Sneads Ferry fishermen haul in more than 385 tons of shrimp each year. In addition to that jaw-dropping amount of shrimp, fishermen in the region also catch more than 25 tons of flounder and 483 tons of other seafood, making Sneads Ferry one of the most productive seaside ports around.

Sneads Ferry NC Lifestyle

Of course, a fair number of Sneads Ferry’s residents are engaged in the fishing industry, so the lifestyle revolves around the water. Situated next to the Intracoastal Waterway on the New River, the village’s access to aquatic activities, occupations and sports are unparalleled.

Even at its birth, Sneads Ferry was inextricably linked to the surrounding waterways. In the early 1700s, the ferry service established there connected Suffolk, Va., with Charleston, S.C. The village grew up around the ferry site and the banks of the New River and became known as Sneads Ferry. A bridge replaced the ferry in 1939, but the village’s legacy as a water-centered community was well-established.

The seafood village celebrates shrimp and the residents who spend so much of their lives bringing it to the community with an annual festival each August. For more than 40 years, the Sneads Ferry Shrimp Festival, including the Shrimp Ball, Shrimp Queen contest, fireworks, a car show and Shrimp Festival Parade, has drawn thousands of people to Sneads Ferry.

The town’s wide ranging cultural and recreational programs enhance the community, as does the village’s North Shore Golf and Country Club. The golf club is the only one of its kind in North Carolina to receive a four-star rating from Golf magazine.
